Today I got a ton of issues resolved. The MAF sensor control unit died last week, making the car stumble and backfire on acceleration. The Smog pump bearing was about to fail, so I deleted it by bolting an idler pulley in its place. The Maf control board is on the firewall behind the dash, so I abandoned it and spliced in one from an 85 Iroc Camaro ($80) New valve cover gaskets stopped the oil leaks ($30). I also canned the Evap system, and disabled the EGR valve. Results are in the video below

I am going to sew some new leather on after the exterior is done. I am going with black ZR1 wheels in 17 x 11” and a new paint job, then I will get to the interior

What’s a smog pump? Also, why pull the EVAP system? It doesn’t hurt your power. It just prevents you from wasting gas that would be evaporated by feeding it back into your engine.

Its the turd next to the alternator, 2nd from right. Its a belt driven blower that forces fresh air into the exhaust to keep the cat converters operating at their best....it steals about 20 hp

I ditched evap because it wasnt working, its ugly, and i needed the hoses to replumb the Pcv system

Glad to hear the good progress!

On another note, how hard was it to delete the EVAP system? I was thinking about possibly doing it to my car for some cheap HP.

Accessory driven old school air injection pumps aka “Smog pumps” (introduced by efforts to reduce emissions thought to cause smog) have been replaced by electric air pumps on vehicles that still use them now. Same reasons given by OP, they rob HP like crazy and are generally useless or not working correctly anyways.

Wow, that’s.... backwards? Interesting.... So it’s a reverse EGR because GM couldn’t figure out how to make their cats work?

Evap doesnt use any HP, but its just ugly. The cannister is behind the left headlight, and it has a ton of vacuum lines and solenoids on it

Yeah, I know what that thing is. Really never bothered me too much.
